Gabriela Jaxon

My name is Gabriela Jaxon, I am a Peruvian born visual artist.I was born and raised in working-class, Chorrillos, Peru, where I was given countless sketchbooks, to encourage creativity but most importantly to keep me out of harm’s way. When I was 8, my family & I had to separate to immigrate to FL in pursuit of the “American Dream.” I assimilated, learned the language, & exceeded academic expectations within a year, which placed me in advanced classes & earned me acceptance to every college I applied to. Prior to graduating from Florida Southern College, I visited NYC for the first time, immediately falling in love with its energy, & immersed myself in street & studio art, where I discovered a sense of purpose & message to communicate to the world through the universal language of art.

Title:  “Divine Feminine”

Size:  65″ X 62″

Inspiration:

Through symbolism, the snake represents rebirth & healing. The waterfall is a metaphor for change & turning points in our lives, hurtling over cliffs & hitting rock[bottom] (obstacles). The waters are mystical at the top. Peruvian lillies symbolize support & devotion. Divine Feminine is about a divine woman force healing & nurturing her soul while overcoming life obstacles & death of a loved one.

Title:  “Enigma”

Size:  110″ X 128″

Inspiration:

I am inspired by abstraction, my south american background, and life in general. This painting was inspired by my life events & ways in which women protect their spirit, perceive life, & deal with events & situations, good and/or bad.

Title:  “Rage”

Size:  65″ X 84″

Inspiration:

The series of 3 tapestries all depict strong, unique, & mystical women. This 1 was created during a time of turmoil for me, while awaiting on immigration to approve or reject my application for temporary residency. It was a time of confusion, anger; I found comfort in darker colors & abstract-like qualities of the painting. The subject of the painting is Rico Nasty, an angry-sounding NYC rapper.
