Artist in Residence Art Show

at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts

225 W State St, Black Mountain, NC 28711

September 3rd – 30th.  (10 am-5 pm week days)

As the Artist in Residence

I will be onsite at all times that the BMCA is open to the public.  September 3rd – 30th.  (10 am-5 pm week days)

When you arrive I may be seen in the sidewalk in front of the building painting on an oversized canvas, or you could find me painting in the gallery or at the rear of the building behind the clay studio working on a new mural.  One thing you can be sure of is that when you find me I’ll be painting.  Come and see what I’ll be working on.

The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is located in Black Mountain’s former City Hall building. The almost century old building has a rich history, which combined with the history of the arts center, weaves a beautiful tapestry of the past, present, and future of Black Mountain.

The show features two series of paintings, “En plein air on the Parkway” and “The Faces and Seasons of Grandfather”

“En plein air on the Parkway” in simplest terms means, painted outside on the parkway. It is a series of both retrospective and contemporary paintings.  It includes both loose and more detailed paintings as I learned what could and could not be accomplished outside in a single session or time.

“The Faces and Seasons of Grandfather” speaks for itself.  Grandfather mountain is on the high ridge of mountains running north and south along the Linville gorge and can be seen from many places hence the phrase, faces of grandfather as opposed to the one face from which it gets its name.  Seasons of grandfather doesn’t refer to its age which is believed to have been formed over 500 million years ago, but to how it looks in the spring, summer, fall and winter.  In the series are other places and mountain peaks along the Linville gorge.
