The WA Studios . . . a place to create and grow as an Artist
The Working Artist is privately-owned and created by David Collins in order to provide other emerging artists with a supportive environment to make and critique new work while engaging with other possibly more experienced artists. The collective environment is intended to assist in artist’s development by giving structure and understanding to processes and practices, clarifying ones artistic identity while working through career and sustainability issues.
The WA will focus on creating a strong sense of community within our artists and outward among emerging and mid-career artists. The goal is to assist in creating a rigorous art community critically impacting Lakeland’s marketability as Central Florida’s Arts and entertainment center. We hope to address the realities and viability of pursuing life as an artist in the region.
The WA facility can house up to 15 visual arts studio spaces of varying sizes. Studio leases are written for 6 month periods only, The WA takes a durational approach to enable development of emerging artists, by incubating artists and their ideas over a six-month span that hopefully concludes with an exhibition and catalog, with a series of public programs along the way.
The WA is a collaborative of independent artists. The venue showcases artwork, hosts art related events, and provides an opportunity for artists to join a like-minded affordable community.
