Open Call to Artists
“Tapestries – Lakeland” an “Un-Mural Art Exhibition”
Tapestries – Lakeland is organized by “The Working Artist Studio and Gallery”, the project aims at promoting quality works of Street Art in Lakeland Florida and enhancing the value of three urban areas.
In line with these goals, sixty painted tapestries will be installed on buildings in Dixieland, Downtown and Midtown.
- Several artists have been invited to create the first twenty painted tapestries.
- We are offering a competition to allow an additional twenty painted tapestries to be created. Winning artists will be commissioned to paint their own tapestry design. Tapestries are 6’x6’, 6’x8’, 8’x10’, 10’x10’, 10’x12’ or 5’x15’. Artists will be paid $10.00 per sq. ft., with canvas tapestry and approved paint provided.
- An additional twenty artists will be selected to participate but will pay a fee of $150.00 to cover the cost of materials and installation. Harrison School for the Arts is sponsoring several students.
The artwork must fit harmoniously into the urban environment of Lakeland and must be politically and ideologically neutral.
“Tapestries – Lakeland” will debut at an artist reception on November 02, 2018 and then be installed during the following weeks.
